STAR Announces FY26/27 Board Leadership Team and New Director Appointment
Stacy Savage of Zero Waste Strategies appointed Chair; Board also fills unexpired director term and outlines upcoming Regional Director appointments
AUSTIN, TEXAS — June 30, 2026 — STAR (State of Texas Alliance for Recycling) today announced its FY26/27 Board of Directors leadership team, effective July 1, 2026, along with the appointment of a new director to fill a vacant seat on the Board.
The STAR Board of Directors has appointed the following individuals to serve on its Executive Committee for FY26/27:
Chair: Stacy Savage, Zero Waste Strategies
Chair-Elect: Alexandra Gyarfas, Circular Services
Treasurer (re-appointed): Cody Lovas, Circular Services
Secretary (re-appointed): Amy Slagle, City of Austin Resource Recovery
Immediate Past Chair: Jeremy Starritt, City of Frisco
The Executive Committee — comprised of the Chair, Chair-Elect, Treasurer, Secretary, and Immediate Past Chair — serves one-year appointments. Immediate Past Chair is a newly created Executive Committee position, established to provide continuity and support to the Board and incoming officers. Jeremy Starritt, who served as STAR’s Chair for FY25/26, has been appointed to the role.

In addition, STAR has appointed Amy Thomaides of the City of San Marcos to serve on the Board of Directors, filling an unexpired term that will run through June 2029.
STAR to Consider Inaugural Regional Director Appointments
At its next Board meeting, the STAR Board of Directors will consider appointments to the newly created Regional Director position. The role was established through a change to STAR’s bylaws approved at the 2026 Member Meeting, held in Denton, Texas in May.
Regional Directors will serve on the STAR Board of Directors. Unlike At-Large Directors, who are elected by the general membership to three-year terms, Regional Directors are appointed by the At-Large Directors to one-year terms. One Regional Director will be appointed for each of STAR’s six regions: North Texas, South Texas, East Texas, West Texas, Central Texas, and the Gulf Coast.
Members interested in serving as a Regional Director are encouraged to contact STAR leadership or staff as soon as possible for consideration. Candidates must have been a member in good standing for at least one year prior to appointment.
