SUMMARY:TELA – Texas Environmental Leadership Awards
DESCRIPTION:\n \n	\n \n \n \n\n	\n\nHonoring Innovation and Stewardship for a Sustainable Future\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe STAR mission is to develop and promote partnerships, education, and advocacy with the vision of a cleaner, greener, and more economically sustainable Texas.\nThese awards recognize stewards of environmental change in Texas – individuals, communities, organizations, and businesses developing and maintaining programs involving recycling, composting, sustainable materials management, public education and outreach, special event recycling – and so much more.\nJoin us in Austin, TX on October 22nd as we honor the programs and impacts that move STAR’s mission forward in meaningful ways.\n–\nExplore the awards and nominate your favorite Texan below…\nALL-STAR ELECTED OFFICIAL\nSTAR will recognize an elected official who is leading nobly in their community or region to support the STAR mission to advance recycling through partnerships, education, and advocacy for the benefit of Texas.\nThis elected official is committed to recycling and sustainability issues within their community, region, or statewide. The All-STAR elected official commits their time and energy to something they are passionate about, and they stand as a leader and steward for the Texas environment.\nCIS MYERS LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD\nCis Myers worked to bring recyclers and recycling organizations together, as the united STAR organization, to have a greater impact on growing recycling rates in Texas. She continues to promote and defend sustainability efforts across the State. Sustainability is generally defined as meeting the needs of today’s generations without compromising the ability of future generations to meet those same needs. To be truly sustainable, a program’s environmental, economic, and social impacts must be addressed.\nThis award recognizes an innovative individual, organization, or company that shows leadership in sustainable operations and programs strongly supported by the bottom line – people, planet, profit.\nEXCELLENCE IN ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION AWARD\nThis award recognizes comprehensive recycling and environmental education programs that provide innovative learning experiences within a program that is measurable and sustainable. All Texas schools, colleges or universities, educators, or organizations providing environmental education and recycling programs are eligible to apply for this award.\nEXCEPTIONAL RECYCLING PARTNERSHIP\nThis award recognizes comprehensive recycling and environmental education programs that provide innovative learning experiences within a program that is measurable and sustainable. All Texas schools, colleges or universities, educators, or organizations providing environmental education and recycling programs are eligible to apply for this award.\nEXTRAORDINARY RECYCLING SPECIAL EVENT AWARD\nThis award recognizes an innovative event held limited times each year and is either focused on recycling or has a unique way of including recycling in another      event that is not necessarily environmentally focused (for instance, a zero-waste component).\nHUMANITARIAN OF THE YEAR AWARD\nSTAR will recognize volunteers who are serving selflessly in their community to support the STAR mission to advance recycling through partnerships, education, and advocacy for the benefit of Texas.\nInstead of awarding only one individual per year, we will recognize multiple volunteers – each committed to recycling and sustainability issues within their community or organization in Texas. Volunteers commit personal time and energy to something they are passionate about, and they stand together as stewards for environmental change in Texas.\nINNOVATIVE ORGANICS AWARD\nThis award recognizes any nonprofit organization, government agency, university, school, or private company project promoting or increasing landfill diversion through organics separation and collection, reduction, and composting. The organics project should provide innovative learning experiences within a program that is measurable and sustainable.\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n Submit Award Nomination(s) Purchase Tickets\n \n \n \n\n
