12th Annual Texas Recycling & Sustainability Summit

We are pleased to announce the Conference Keynote Speaker, Jerry Powell, President, Resource Recycling, Inc.
Jerry Powell is the owner of three magazines (Resource Recycling, Plastics Recycling Update and E-Scrap News) and is also editor of Resource Recycling. In addition, he aids in the management of two annual conferences, The E-Scrap Conference and Exhibition, and The Plastics Recycling Conference and Exhibition.
- Previously Mr. Powell founded and managed a recycling consulting firm for a decade and founded and managed a recycling business in Portland, Oregon for more than eight years.
- He is a past three-time Chair of the Board of the National Recycling Coalition
- He has spoken on waste management and recycling issues in 46 states and five Canadian provinces.

Purpose of position: Plan, organize, schedule, & direct UT recycling program & CPFM sustainability effort. Work cooperatively with CPFM Departments & university personnel in carrying out the mission of the recycling program and in furthering sustainability.
Essential functions: Direct & administer campus recycling/waste reduction activities. Monitor all campus sustainability activities pertaining to CPFM including campus recycling, university waste stream & other areas involved in environmental programs/policies/ practices. Develop, administer, maintain sustainability programs within CPFM. Create strategy to integrate sustainability principles into Facilities Services and CPFM operational functions. Supervise Recycling Shop, Surplus Properties, Furniture Shop, and Solid Waste employees. Manage budgets. Provide support to CPFM departments for the development and implementation of natural resource conservation projects. Work with Manager of Demand-Side Energy Conservation Program in energy-related areas. Develop standards to enhance safety and health policies. Establish annual goals for recycling & sustainability efforts. Submit annual report & provide analysis of recycling & sustainability efforts. Develop/maintain tools, metrics, & indicators for assessing progress towards sustainability. Represent the University at public forums, discussions, and negotiations with various community groups or agencies.
Marginal/Incidental functions: Occasional need to operate a University vehicle. Other related functions as assigned.
Required qualifications: Bachelor's degree. Minimum two years in recycling and sustainability area. Management and supervisory experience. Licenses: Class "C" Operator's Driver's License. Applicant selected must provide a current three year Driving Record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver's License within 30 days after entering Texas as a new resident.
Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred qualifications: Master's degree. Five years of proven leadership experience within a large recycling program.
