Frequently Asked Questions

How do I implement a plastic bottle recycling program at a local high school?

A pilot project was started in June 2007, when three parent volunteers got tired of seeing the overflowing trash cans with mostly plastic bottles at the tennis courts of Memorial High School in Houston. They got the school administration, custodial staff, PTA, and the AP Environmental Science class on board to support their efforts. The program was started January, 2008 as an in-house recycling program and by the end of the semester, 75000 plastic bottles (PET and HDPE) were collected, averaging 4000 bottles/week. Their project was so successful, they put together this handy "how to" packet to share with you.
